These best practices are a collection of lessons learned from the existing Communities,
the Pilots, and our research. The best practices section is
divided into four areas:
Strategy and Leadership: The articulation of KM strategic goals as they relate to CoPs and approaches to developing CoP leadership and executive sponsorship.
Organization and Process: The structure, process, and organization of the CoP -- Specifically, the extent to which knowledge flows, between knowledge seekers and knowledge sources.
People and Culture: Approaches to building a culture of sharing that will build the readiness of an organization and its people to embrace CoP values and beliefs that drive people's day-to-day work. It includes incorporating knowledge sharing into an organization's and individual's norms, symbols, work climate, and philosophy.
Technology and Systems: Information on how to assess, select, and implement technology to support your CoP. It includes information on knowledge-enabling technologies, including data warehousing, messaging and group-ware, electronic document management, business intelligence, workflow, and Web-based technologies that support the production and management of knowledge.
