Workstream: People & Culture / Implementation Phase: Analysis

Create Change Vision; Identify Leadership, Exec. Sponsor, and Core Group

A key element in developing a CoP is to create a vision for change. This vision will inspire staff and management. A vision should express where the CoP would be when it is implemented. As with the business case, it should clearly express the benefits. However, unlike the business case, the vision should be expressed in an emotive, narrative form that expresses what it would be like to operate in the CoP.

The CoP initiators should identify leadership from within their ranks, a core group to manage the CoP's implementation, and an executive sponsor. The sponsor should have sufficient interest in the project to devote time and resources to the project. In addition, he or she should be senior enough and sufficiently well respected to provide credibility and deploy resources to support implementation.
