Knowledge Management Best Practices

Working with its staff, stakeholders and partners, USAID's knowledge management vision is to connect people, work smarter and get results. This includes accessing and leveraging worldwide development knowledge; generating new intellectual capital; and continuously learning from their activities. On this page you will find useful resources and tools to successfully implement knowledge management practices within a project group, or community.

  • After-Action Review: USAID's tool for immediate review of an event—what went well and why, what to improve and how. Click here for more information on this KM practice.

  • KM Communities: A one-stop-shop for all your Community of Practice (CoP) needs, including practical, "how-to" information for developing a CoP. There is information on how to develop CoPs and how to improve an existing CoP. All aspects of CoP development are covered including development of strategy and leadership, organization and process, a sharing culture, and technology and systems. Downloads of briefings, workplans, development templates and everything that a CoP needs to grow and flourish are provided.

  • USAID Summer Seminar Series: A venue open to the public for discussing a variety of topics ranging from performance measurement and evaluation, to program implementation, policy discussions, management initiatives and business operations.
