Knowledge for Development Workshop

Hosted by the Regional Center for Southern Africa (RCSA)
Gaborone, Botswana March 1 - 3, 2004

The Regional Center for Southern Africa (RCSA) is pleased to host the first Knowledge for Development Workshop in Gaborone, Botswana March 1 - 3, 2004. The purpose of the Workshop is to provide training for Mission Knowledge Coordinators in the Southern Africa region.

Knowledge Coordinators are the lead advocate in each mission for knowledge activities - using knowledge management tools and methods to allow their mission to better harness and use the wealth of knowledge generated within missions, the Agency, and by our implementing partners, to achieve development results.

This Workshop is a key milestone in the Agency's implementation of the BTEC Knowledge for Development strategy. Knowledge Coordinators play an integral role in the achievement of the Agency's Knowledge for Development vision.

Agenda

Workshop content includes:

  • What are the key issues in knowledge management in the field?
  • How do we identify and use available knowledge management tools?
  • What are the opportunities to use knowledge management solutions to tackle development problems?
  • What knowledge sharing activities are your colleagues in the field currently implementing? What is being planned?
  • How can we better share knowledge within our missions? Between our missions?

A full agenda is attached. (Adobe PDF, 3 pp)

This will be a hands-on, working session!

Who should attend?

Mission Knowledge Coordinators (KC) from the Southern Africa region are urged to attend. If your mission has not yet designated a KC, you are encouraged to do so at this time. (You may also wish to identify an alternate KC to attend as well.)

Before you arrive...

Because this will be a working session, participants will be urged to prepare for the workshop by reviewing selected articles on knowledge management, submitting entries to the Agency KM Inventory, and identifying potential issues for discussion during the workshop. Please refer to the attached agenda for more details.
